The Chairman Ekiti State Council of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union RATTAWU Com. Tola Popoola has been accused of high handedness and tyrannical tendencies in the handling of the union affairs in one and a half years of her administration.
Members of the union in the state gave this accusation I’m a petition to the President requesting for urgent intervention of the National Secretariat to restore normalcy to the State Council.
In the petition sighted by our reporter, the chairman was accused of not holding meetings and taking the decisions on behalf of the union without carrying along her executive members. “This unbearable dictatorship has reduced the number of executive from eleven to five and the entire women wing no longer work with her because they all cannot cope with her excesses” the letter said.
The women wing of the union is an autonomous organ of the union with its own chairperson and executive members but since inception of office, she was alleged ro have being the one representing the women wing of the union at events and collecting monies on behalf of the wing for personal use.
Part of what angered the members of the union, especially the women is the fact that an NLC election is rumoured to be on the way in the women wing of the labour centre and she may be positioning herself to represent the union at the state level which is supposed to be the responsibility of the women wing executive.
The elders of the union across all chapters are said to be consulting the state council of the NLC and the National Secretariat of RATTAWU to intervene timely before the situation goes out of hand.
