Validation of Vision: Leadership and Telegraph Honours Confirm the ‘BAO Effect’ in Ekiti

Written by Laolu Omosilade

The political atmosphere in Ekiti State has been positively electrified following the conferment of two major national honours on Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) by Leadership Newspaper and Nigerian Telegraph Newspaper in the outgoing week.

These recognitions are not just routine ceremonial gestures, but independent validations from reputable media institutions that have carefully assessed governance trends across the federation.

In honouring Governor Oyebanji, the newspapers acknowledged measurable progress and steady leadership, demonstrated over the past three years.

Since assuming office, Governor Oyebanji has pursued his inclusive six-point development agenda with calm determination and broad consultation.

His administration has focused on infrastructure renewal, human capital development, agricultural support, social investment, industrial growth, and governance reforms.

Across communities, there have been deliberate efforts to improve rural roads, rehabilitate schools, upgrade health facilities, empower youth and women, support workers and pensioners, and strengthen security architecture.

While governance will always present challenges and room for improvement, many us, who are stakeholders, agree that the administration has maintained stability, fiscal discipline, and an open-door policy that encourages participation from diverse interest groups.

As a witness to the encomiums at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center, venue of one of the Award presentations in Abuja, I can confidently confirm that, Politically, the awards serve as encouragement not only to the Governor but also to the stakeholders, who are the leading Leaders of the “All Progressives Congress”, party who believed in his capacity and presented him as a candidate.

It is also a morale booster for the political platform, APC, that produced him and a source of pride for all of us, Ekitis who cast our votes for him in confidence, to become the Governor.

At the same time, in a vibrant democracy, the recognition invites healthy debate and constructive engagement from opposition voices, ensuring that governance remains accountable and people-driven.

However, as the June 20 governorship election approaches, the moment calls for thoughtful reflection rather than sentiment.

The electorate must weigh performance, leadership style, accessibility, and the ability to sustain the ongoing development.

For supporters of Governor Oyebanji, these awards reinforce the argument for continuity and consolidation of ongoing projects.

For undecided voters, the recognition presents an opportunity to objectively assess the trajectory of the state under his stewardship, and join the moving train.

Ultimately, the future of Ekiti State rests in the hands of its people.

The decision at the Saturday June 20th 2026 polls should be guided by vision, track record, and the collective aspiration for sustained growth, peace, and prosperity.

If the people are convinced that the current administration’s inclusive six-point agenda remains the best pathway forward, then renewing the mandate of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and his deputy, would represent a vote for continuity, stability, and accelerated development.
