SOWERE’S ATTACK IN ADO-EKITI: EKITI MUST NOT BE DRAGGED INTO POLITICAL SHENANIGANS

By Oluwaseye Babalola

Following reports of an alleged attack on Omoyele Sowore in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, October 30, 2026, I wish to caution Sowore and his political associates against dragging Ekiti State into unnecessary political controversies.

Ekiti people are known for their peaceful disposition, intellectual depth, respect for constituted authority, and commitment to the rule of law. We are a people who value peace, dialogue, and responsible political engagement.

Let me state unequivocally that I do not support the reported attack on Sowore. I condemn such an act in its entirety. No individual, regardless of political affiliation or ideological differences, deserves to be attacked or harassed for expressing an opinion.

However, as a self-proclaimed presidential candidate and a prominent political figure, Sowore should understand that courtesy, respect, and responsibility are essential when visiting a state.

If his visit to Ekiti was primarily to participate in the Ikogosi Marathon, it would have been appropriate to focus on the sporting event and allow it to take place peacefully without unnecessary political distractions.

This is not Sowore’s first visit to Ekiti for the marathon, and he is certainly not the only participant who has travelled to the state for the event. Why, therefore, should his visit be turned into an opportunity to create unnecessary political tension?

Ekiti State is not a battleground for political theatrics. Our state deserves to be respected, and its peace must not be sacrificed on the altar of personal or partisan political interests.

While we welcome visitors from across the country and beyond, such hospitality must be reciprocated with respect for our people, institutions, and political environment.

We, the sons and daughters of Ekiti State, cannot stand by and watch anyone tarnish the image of our dear state through avoidable political controversies.

Our position is clear: We condemn the reported attack on Sowore, but we equally reject any attempt to use the incident to drag Ekiti State into unnecessary political shenanigans.

Ekiti remains a land of peace, honour, and intellectual excellence. We welcome everyone who comes to our state in peace, but those who cannot respect our peaceful environment should reconsider their approach.

Ekiti na mpebi!
