Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the naming of newly completed government buildings after former governors of the state in recognition of their individual contributions to Ekiti’s political and infrastructural development.

The gesture is part of the administration’s efforts to preserve the state’s history while acknowledging leaders who have played significant roles in its growth, irrespective of political affiliation.
Among the projects, a government building named after the immediate past Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, will be inaugurated on Friday, July 31, 2026, while another named after former Governor Chief Ayodele Fayose is scheduled for commissioning on Monday, August 3, 2026.

A third facility, dedicated to former Governor Engr. Segun Oni, has reached an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be commissioned in October 2026.
The latest recognition follows a similar decision by Governor Oyebanji in 2024, when the remodelled Presidential Lodge in Ado-Ekiti was named after Ekiti’s first civilian Governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who later commissioned the facility during activities marking the administration’s second anniversary.
In a symbolic move aimed at promoting unity and continuity in governance, the former governors are expected to personally commission the buildings bearing their names as Special Guests of Honour.
The project inaugurations form part of a fresh round of commissioning ceremonies by the Oyebanji administration as it consolidates on its infrastructure drive following the Governor’s re-election for a second term.
The development also reflects the administration’s commitment to completing ongoing capital projects and expanding public infrastructure in line with its Shared Prosperity Agenda, while fostering inclusiveness and institutional continuity across successive administrations.
